Bathe Your Ears in Natural Sounds

Music,
it embodies our spirit,
encompasses our soul.
Music need not be orchestrated
or composed.
Music is everywhere.
It is the cries of a newborn,
The drip, drip of water
when a sink is left
slightly turned on.
It is the noise of interaction between
cars and people on Main Street.
It is the silence of a person sleeping,
an awkward moment,
your first kiss.

Music is speaking.
How beautiful it is
the way words flow out of our mouths.
These precious sounds
we take for granted.

I have always felt that music
is all around us.
We don’t need to turn on the radio,
go to a concert,
or play that old Barry White record.
All we need to do is
listen to the noises around us,
the natural music the Earth produces,
appreciate,
and bathe our ears in these most beautiful sounds.

  1. I love all the ways you show the hidden sounds of music in everyday things. The entire poem flowed very well. Haha, and I loved your reference to Barry White.

  2. I loved the part about listening to the Earth's natural music and how you said that music is all around us, nice job!

  3. this poem is really good. It reads aloud well, anbd I like how you point out the music is ordinary events, like a dripping sink, and in special events, like a first kiss.

I think my favorite line was "It is in the silence of a person sleeping" I like the image that brings, and the contrast between the silence and the music of that silence.
